Rev. Joseph V. Murphy, 76, of Long Beach passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12, 2016 at his home.
Receiving prayers of Rev. Joseph V. Murphy into the church will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Holy Spirit Church, 7667 E 109th Avenue in Crown Point, Indiana. Visitation will then follow prayers until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. till Morning Prayers. Morning prayers will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Holy Spirit Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery on the campus of the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana.
Root Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Fr. Joe was born April 5, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Joseph V. and Dorothy (Hogan) Murphy.
Surviving is one sister, Dorothy " Sis" Murphy of Long Beach and one brother, Daniel E. Murphy of Chicago and many loving nieces and nephews and friends who will miss him.
He is preceded in death by his twin brother, John H. " Jack" Murphy and one niece, Maureen Murphy.
Father Joe was a priest with the Gary Diocese and the retired pastor and founder of Holy Spirit Church in Crown Point. Through his retirement he was able to help many local parishes celebrating masses.
Father Joe was a graduate of St. Mary's High School (Marquette) and attended the University of Notre Dame before entering the seminary.
Memorials may be made to Holy Spirit Church.
