Gale E. Schooley
November 3, 1941 - February 16, 2024
On Friday, February 16, 2024, Gale Eugene Schooley, loving husband, father, brother passed away in Michigan City, IN at the age of 82.
Born November 3, 1941 in Muncie, IN to Everett Louis Schooley and Nina Virginia (Lee) Schooley, he is survived by siblings Donald (Nancy) Schooley, Judith (Wendell) Schooley-Foster, and Teresa (Mark) (Schooley) Dustman. In his young life he was active in 4-H, played basketball and baseball, and graduated from Petroleum High School as Salutatorian.
Gale married his high-school sweetheart, Madeleine (Habig) Schooley, on January 2, 1963. They moved to Michigan City in 1964, becoming proud parents of Julie, Dawn (deceased), James (Angela), Patrick (Latrica), Matthew (Andra) and Zahara; doting grandparents of Joselyn, Alexandria, Julianna, James, Joshua, Lauren, Colin, Aaron, and Akeem; and delighted great-grandparents of Leighton.
He was a dedicated family man who participated in civic activities including the JayCees, Boy Scouts, Moose Lodge, and CISV, and was a member of Michigan City Christian Church. Gale pursued a long career as an Industrial Engineer, and in his later years enjoyed serving the community at Kabelin Ace Hardware. In his free time he enjoyed learning about Civil War history, bowling, tinkering with cars, fishing, walking on the beach, and feeding the backyard birds.
Friends and family are invited to gather on Saturday, February 24 at Root Funeral Home for a visitation at 9-11am, and a service at 11am, followed by a luncheon at Michigan City Christian Church. A private family burial will be held on Monday at Greenwood Cemetery.
